Venture Capital is Going Green
Venture capital has long been in favor of technology. It took it a while to get on board with the green movement, but venture capital is now going green.
From Google to Adobe to Cisco to…well, just about any technology company, the relationship of venture capital and technology has always been strong. Despite the claims of VC executives, the industry has long been inflexible when it comes to looking at opportunities outside this finite box. This is particularly true when it comes to green technology.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that the nation is moving in a green direction. The public is pro-green. State and federal governments have also started backing up the tax trough to provide funding for research in the field and breaks for consumers to buy it. Despite all this, the venture capitalists sat on the sidelines twiddling their thumbs while wondering when the next Google would show up. Well, no more.
Venture Capitalist invested a laughably small amount of money in green companies in the last decade. It was only the last two years when they came around to the idea that these companies just might go big and invested a staggering $4.1 billion dollars. An industry that was traditionally cash poor was suddenly rolling in funds like you can’t imagine.
Better Late Than Never
Although VC has come to the market late, the good news is it has come at a critical time. Hundreds of small green companies are looking for cash to take the next step and the financial markets are bone dry. Venture capital is stepping into the void and providing the funding that is allowing these companies to step up to the market.
If you are a green company in need of funding, the venture capital market is your potential oyster. Do some research and you should be able to come up with funding options that can take you from a small start up to a big player in your target market.
